Rt. Honorable President Graces “Girls with the President” Program

On the occasion of the fifthInternational Day of the Girl 2016, the Right Honorable President MrsBidya Devi Bhandari participated in a function organized at the Presidential Palace, SheetalNiwas. Organizedunder the aegis of SamagraRastriyaKishoriSanjal (All Girls National Network),  some 40 girls from 20 districts participated the program and staged a mock parliament called “BalikaSamsad” (Girl Parliament) with the banner slogan “Girls in Leadership Campaign” and presented a simulated policy and program focusing on the challenges  facing the girls in Nepal  and their probable solutions.Pointing out the necessity of hardwork, generous spirit, and sacrifice to be a leader, the Right Honorable President MrsBidya Devi Bhandari expressed the best wishes for the success of the fifth International Day of the Girl. In the program conducted by the president of the NetworkMonika Ranabhat, the Chairperson of the Development Committee of the Legislature Parliament Mr RabindraShrestha emphasized on the fact that if girls are provided with opportunities, they are able to take leadership of the society and nation; hence, we should provide them opportunities. The program was also attended by the representatives of governmental, non-governmental, and the social institutions active for children’s rights. Since 2011, the United Nations has been celebrating International Day of the Girlevery year on 11 October across the worldby organizing different programs.The slogan for this year’s International Day of the Girl is Girls’ Progress = Goals’ Progress: What Counts for Girls.
